Nebraska Democratic Party Statement on the Nebraska Midterm Election Results
LINCOLN, NE – The Nebraska Democratic Party Chair and ASDC President Jane Kleeb issued the following statement following the historic results of the Nebraska Midterm Election:
“The blue-dot is sending Denise Powell, the first woman and Latina, to represent the Second Congressional District in Congress. We are on the verge of breaking the GOP Supermajority in the Legislature and flipped critical seats up and down the ballot. The results tonight are a decade in the making, with year-round organizing and strong candidates who showed up in every corner of the state. Donald Trump’s reckless handling of the economy, his tariffs, and the Iran war drove people to the polls. But voters didn’t just reject something. They chose something. Democrats offered a future where children aren’t ripped from their parents’ arms, where data centers don’t get tax handouts while working families foot the bill, and where fairness for all is more than a slogan. Nebraskans want that future. Tonight, they voted for it.”
These victories didn’t happen by accident – they’re the result of two years of steady investment from the DNC and a decade of organizing by the Nebraska Democratic Party in early vote programs, year-round organizing, and candidates who stood up to Trump’s disastrous economy and his attacks on our communities.
Midterm Highlights
- The legislative candidates supported by the Nebraska Democratic Party won 8 seats, with three additional races that are too close to call. We are on the verge of breaking the GOP Supermajority. Republicans did not flip a single legislative seat.
- Denise Powell not only flipped the seat; she did so by more than 15 points, solidifying the NE2 power base that was also shown in presidential cycles and Mayor John Ewing’s victory.
- Democrats’ mail-in ballot return rate was 91% compared to Republicans at 84%, showing our voters’ enthusiasm.
Year-Round Organizing Impact
- The Nebraska Democratic Party had organizers on staff across the state, increasing county party infrastructure from 31 to 75 of Nebraska’s 93 counties and organizing rural, Latino, and African American voters.
- We knocked almost 12,000 doors in a single day across the state, working to turn out voters for the entire ballot.
- Over this election cycle, we sent more than 225,000 vote-by-mail applications and 300,000 voter guides to educate Democratic and Independent voters on voting logistics.
- Across all candidates and the party, we focused on the nuts and bolts of organizing and contacting voters–1,617,594 pieces of mail were sent, 1,275,243 doors knocked, 353,171 calls made, and 3,678,905 texts sent.
