Nebraska Treasurer Spellerberg Launches Push to Reunite Residents With Unclaimed Property

LINCOLN, Neb. (WOWT) - Nebraska State Treasurer Joey Spellerberg is encouraging Nebraskans to partake in the upcoming “Unclaimed Property Day” on February 1.

In a release sent Friday, Spellerberg pointed to two potentially valuable resources both in and out of the state of Nebraska.

For unclaimed property in Nebraska, residents can check through Nebraska Lost Cash to find out about any property that may be theirs to claim.

Property outside the state of Nebraska can be found through Missing Money.

“This is not the state’s money — it’s money that belongs to individuals who could use these funds for daily expenses, a down payment on a first home, or college savings,” Spellerberg said. “Nebraska has streamlined the claims process because we want these unclaimed dollars back in our local economies.”

The release states there is unclaimed property in all 93 counties in Nebraska, including:

• $96 million in the Omaha metro
• $28.6 million in Lincoln
• $7 million in Bellevue
• $5.1 million in Grand Island

In 2025, the state’s Unclaimed Property Division returned more than $19.7 million in assets.

Some common forms of unclaimed property include:

• Unpaid life insurance benefits
• Forgotten bank accounts
• Uncashed checks
